Are They from God (John 7:1-31) – Part 2 Movement

When we are sent by God, we move with a divine purpose that transcends cultural pressure and human opinion. Learn how to align your life with God's timing and discernment.

When people are sent by God, they move differently. They don’t follow the crowds, cultural trends, or the opinions of others. They follow God and move according to His timing. In John 7, we see Jesus modeling this balance—He is not operating out of fear, yet He is not acting recklessly. He is operating under a divine assignment.

The Nature of Divine Movement

When someone is sent from God, they move with purpose, discernment, and a protection that stems from obedience. This doesn't mean they are untouchable, but it means their life is defined by God’s purpose until that work is finished.

1. They move by God’s timing, not pressure

Those sent by God refuse to be rushed. They understand that their life is on a divine clock.

My time has not yet come… they were seeking to arrest him, but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.John 7:6-8, 30

Think of David, who had the opportunity to kill Saul but refused. He would not force what God had promised, choosing to wait for the throne rather than grab it early.

2. They take intentional, guided routes

Jesus moved to the feast in private rather than public view. This wasn't fear; it was strategy. Similarly, when Philip was led by an angel to a desert road in Acts 8, it seemed like an "odd" assignment, yet it became the pivotal moment of the Ethiopian eunuch's conversion.

3. Boldness with restraint

Jesus taught openly in the temple, but He consistently pointed back to the Father, saying, "My teaching is not mine." Those sent by God have courage without ego. Like Peter and John in Acts 4, they speak boldly not to build a brand, but because they cannot help but share what they have seen and heard.

Understanding God's Protection

Danger is real, but it is limited by God’s sovereign timeline. While followers of Christ may face real threats, God preserves their life until their work is complete. From Elijah and Jeremiah to Paul, history shows us that God protects His own until the assignment is done. Following Jesus doesn't mean threats disappear; it means they are held in check until the perfect moment according to God's plan.

Key Attributes of the Sent

Key Points
  • ✦They don’t need human approval: They answer to God first, even when pressured to compromise.
  • ✦They carry discernment: They know when to confront and when to withdraw. Being sent by God isn't about always charging forward; it is about obeying the next instruction.
  • ✦They view "closed doors" as guidance: When God forbids a certain path, it is not a failure—it is redirection.

Don’t waste your energy trying to convince people of something that they will never accept. Speak the truth—not your truth, but the truth—and move on.
