Essentials of Christianity
These are the non-negotiable, foundational truths of the Christian faith. Not opinions or denominational preferences — these are the bedrock beliefs that define what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ. If you remove any one of these, you don't have Christianity.
The Authority of Scripture
The Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God. It is not a suggestion book — it is the final authority on all matters of faith, life, and practice. Every word is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, correction, and training in righteousness. We don't adjust Scripture to fit culture — we adjust our lives to fit Scripture.
The Trinity — One God, Three Persons
There is one God who exists eternally in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Not three gods. Not one God wearing three masks. One God, three co-equal, co-eternal persons — each fully God, each distinct, working in perfect unity.
The Deity of Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man. He is not a created being, not an angel, not just a good teacher. He is God in the flesh — the eternal Son who took on human nature, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and revealed the Father to us. This is the hill we die on.
The Virgin Birth
Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. This was not a metaphor. This was a supernatural, miraculous event that set Jesus apart from every human being who ever lived — born without a sin nature, fully God and fully man from the moment of conception.
The Sinfulness of Humanity
Every person ever born (except Jesus) is born with a sin nature inherited from Adam. We are not basically good people who sometimes mess up — we are sinners by nature and by choice, separated from God, and completely unable to save ourselves. This is why we need a Savior.
Salvation by Grace Through Faith Alone
Salvation is a free gift from God, received by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone — not by works, good deeds, church attendance, baptism, or anything we do. You cannot earn it. You cannot lose it by not being good enough. Jesus paid the full price on the cross. Our job is to believe, repent, and receive.
The Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus
Jesus Christ died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, was buried, and physically rose from the dead on the third day. This is the gospel. Without the cross, there is no forgiveness. Without the resurrection, there is no hope. This is the most important event in human history — and it actually happened.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity — fully God, not just a force or feeling. He convicts the world of sin, regenerates believers, indwells every Christian from the moment of salvation, empowers us for godly living, gives spiritual gifts, and guides us into all truth. If you're saved, the Holy Spirit lives in you.
The Second Coming of Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is coming back — literally, physically, and visibly. He will return to judge the living and the dead, establish His kingdom, and make all things new. This is not symbolic. This is not wishful thinking. This is a promise from God, and every prophecy God has made has come true. This one will too.
Eternal Life and Eternal Judgment
There are only two eternal destinations: heaven and hell. Those who place their faith in Jesus Christ receive eternal life in the presence of God. Those who reject Him face eternal separation from God. This is not popular to say, but it is what Scripture teaches — and love tells the truth even when it's uncomfortable.
