Day 17: When God Calls the Unqualified

Moses tried to talk God out of his calling, but he learned that God's power is made perfect in our weakness. Discover how to overcome your own excuses today.

The Burning Bush and the Reluctant Leader

Today, we encounter Moses at one of the most pivotal moments in human history. He is a shepherd living in obscurity when God meets him in a burning bush. Notice that God doesn't call Moses because he is ready; He calls him to reveal His power through a man who feels entirely inadequate for the task.

Insights from Exodus 3-5

Key Points
  • ✦God is in the details: God tells Moses, 'I have surely seen the affliction of my people.' He is not a distant deity; He is deeply aware of your struggles and is actively working toward your redemption.
  • ✦The struggle of obedience: Moses offers five different excuses to God. We often do the same, focusing on our own weaknesses rather than the One who promises to be with us.
  • ✦Persistence in the face of pressure: When Moses approaches Pharaoh, things get worse before they get better. Obeying God doesn't guarantee an easy path, but it does guarantee His presence.
But Moses said to God, 'Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?' He said, 'But I will be with you.'Exodus 3:11-12

Practical Application: Identifying Your 'But'

What is your 'but'? When God prompts your heart to serve, forgive, or step out in faith, what follows the word 'but'? Is it, 'But I’m not qualified,' or 'But I don’t have the resources'? Today, write down your specific excuse, draw a line through it, and write, 'God is with me' underneath. Start your day by acknowledging that your capability is secondary to His calling.

A Prayer for Today

Lord, thank You for choosing me despite my weaknesses. Help me to stop looking at my own limitations and start looking at Your strength. When I am afraid to step forward, remind me that You are the I AM, and You are with me in every step. Amen.
